Before President Paul Biya said “I urge you all to take part in this worthy cause. Electioneering for the post of president is past and gone. It is now time to get together”, Cameroonians were already returning to their daily activities and the alleged post-election doomsday did not materialize. Despite calls for ghost towns and threats of violence, Cameroonians did not waiver as they remained attached to the president’s post election call for peace.
The country has returned to its normal state “Africa in Miniature” where hundreds of national tribes and almost all Africans from east, west, north and south live in harmony with each other. The markets are booming back, schools are going on, airports are functioning, buses are linking cities, lorries are taking goods from one part to the other, farmers are farming and life is booming. Social media attempts to paint a dark image and derail citizens failed woefully.
All Cameroonians now have their eyes fixed on President Paul BIYA to start implementing the promises of his political agenda and campaign manifesto. Many are reading and analyzing President PAUL BIYA’s investiture speech in which he promised to work with all, especially youths and women to build a united, strong and prosperous Cameroon. Others have been following the president’s daily tweets and comments which serve as their only compass in an atmosphere where social media lies and manipulations have become the norm and attempts of foreign interference are being exposed everyday.
As a first concrete action to execute an electoral promise, hundreds of millions of frs cfa have been disbursed to accompany some young entrepreneurs with diverse projects. The launching of admissions into teacher’s training colleges and ecole normales are already being executed on the field. Traders and importers along the DOUALA-BANGUI and DOUALA-NDJAMENA corridors have seen extensive government measures to reduce their operational costs and secure their transit, creating thousands of jobs for youths.
As Cameroonians wait on President PAUL BIYA to put in place all the human and institutional factors that will accompany him to realize his new vision for Cameroon, the excitement is palpable. Even individuals who had their properties and businesses vandalized after the election result are now being identified, inventoried and their losses determined as President PAUL BIYA has promised to compensate them. Businesses that were vandalized are also being evaluated to see how government will compensate them as directed by PRESIDENT PAUL BIYA.
This post-election vibrancy and patriotic fervor to accompany the president is of course being occulted by haters of Cameroon and foreign media looking for another civil war in Africa. Cameroonians have demonstrated that with President PAUL BIYA, they prefer their haven of peace rather risk the unknown. All the foreign media that were ready to start reporting on a new civil war in Africa have now taken their cameras to other countries. All the humanitarian organizations that were ready to make money from a new crisis in Africa are slowly moving their attention elsewhere.
Cameroonians have chosen life over death, peace over war, order over disorder and President BIYA over warriors. For the next seven years with President Paul BIYA, Cameroonians have guaranteed their future to the chagrin of all who worked and predicted chaos…
