The French Ambassador to Cameroon granted an interview following his audience with President Paul Biya, where he shared insights on the state of relations between the two countries.
The Ambassador described the meeting as an opportunity to take stock of the bilateral partnership at the close of his three-year mission. “When I arrived, I had a clear roadmap stemming from President Macron’s visit a few months earlier, which had set many areas of cooperation on the table. Three years later, it was natural to review this with the President and assess how far we’ve come.”
According to him, the relationship has not weakened but rather strengthened over time. “It has also evolved,” he explained. “France’s ambition has always been to build with Cameroon a renewed partnership, one that is adapted to the 21st century and the major challenges facing the international community. Today, France and Cameroon are moving forward side by side, in an atmosphere of great trust—first between our Heads of State, and also between our societies. I believe this gives us the means to continue strengthening our ties for decades to come.”
Asked about his impressions of President Paul Biya, the Ambassador noted continuity and steadiness. “I had already met him about a year and a half ago, and today I found him in the same frame of mind: highly aware and well-informed about the wide range of issues we discussed. He struck me as someone firmly in charge of the country’s direction and preparing to engage in a new presidential campaign. I very much appreciated the depth and openness of our exchanges, which reflect the richness of the dialogue between France and Cameroon.”
