The presidential candidate for the UNIVERS (yango) political party barrister Akere Muna son of Solomon Tandeng Muna former decades-long speaker of the Cameroon National Assembly under President Paul Biya is a well-known agitator and scammer of functions/titles who re-packaged himself as a respectable lawyer, human rights advocate and anti-corruption campaigner.
In his political and legal career, AKERE Muna has bluffed his way to the summit to the dismay not only of his Momo division tribesmen, Northwest brothers and other Anglophone Cameroonians. To his anglophone primary school and secondary school classmates, Akere Muna was below average and his sudden legal genius stance is just a very big scam. Akere was always the last not only in class but last in all subjects.
This veritable fils-a-papa to the dismay of all ended up passing all the GCE exams (many now say it was with the direct intervention of Papa Solomon). How could the son of the second personality of the country fail?
Papa Solomon Tandeng Muna’s intervention for his son did not end there, as he was miraculously given a scholarship to study in London. While in London, many private teachers had to be engaged to help Akere.
He ran back to Cameroon after several interventions to get him into the bar association of the UK.
The same fils-a-papa connections helped him become President of the Cameroon Bar association.
To the total dismay of Cameroonians, especially those of the English-speaking regions, Akere Muna started talking about corruption and auto-proclaimed himself the Cameroon anti-corruption “pope”. Many were amazed as he started claiming he was fighting a “corrupt system”. Then they asked if Akere Muna had forgotten that he was a pure product of the system.
Even when President Paul Biya in his usual political magnanimity, offered his sister Ama Tutu Muna a ministerial post, despite the state of Cameroon giving him some soft-cases to handle, Akere multiplied his claims of being a saint. He had become the most virtuous person in Cameroon and the same regime that gave him all was now “evil”. President Paul Biya was no a corrupt leader.
Almost all the negative corruption reports on Cameroon had Akere Muna’s support and participation. President Paul Biya continued to consider him as the son of a former collaborator, and he was never disturbed. Instead he continued to enjoy a “special status”.
Now, Cameroonians who had never profited from the system wondered if Akere Muna had forgotten that all the Muna children studied abroad not because they were too brilliant or deserved more than others. Even if the other Muna children merited a bit, everyone is unanimous that Akere Muna was never scholarship material.
Akere seem to have forgotten that his own father became popular in his native Momo Division and Anglophone Cameroon for building a big prison when President Ahidjo asked him what project he wanted for his people. He also went down in “History” as the one who refused to create jobs for his people and only focused on his children.
Many anglophones are wondering how a man who’s father left behind over 150 houses, over 100 bank accounts, state lands and hundreds of other landed-property can claim to fight the same system that gave all this to his father? How can he not see that all the property he is enjoying today came from the alleged “corrupt system”.
How can Akere not see that President Paul Biya has been a real father to the Muna family even when he did not have to.
In a last-ditch political scam and seeking-for-attention move, Akere Muna is asking that the constitutional council reject President Biya’s candidacy. Even after the same court has confirmed this candidacy, Akere is still insisting.
President Biya will be a candidate, and Cameroonians have now seen that his magnanimity is being abused by someone who’s family has benefitted from him despite not meriting it.
As Akere Muna starts his presidential campaign, even his family members do no believe in him. In his native Momo Division, Akere Muna can not have even 3% score in an election as no one wants to hear the Muna name.
Many see his presidential candidacy as a continuation of his life-scam which has always been to present himself as someone that he is not. Others see it as an insult to President Paul Biya who gave his father everything. Still, many say Akere Muna is just looking for money after most of his father’s properties have been blocked in legal squabbles with his siblings.
Anglophones who know Akere Muna better, all see his true lack of leadership skills and his constant quest for recognition.
Many are now saying they know after the election, President Paul Biya will still consider him as a son.
The Akere Muna scam has reached presidential dimensions and his defeat in the October 12th 2025, election is sure. /-
