Over the years, the Cameroonian diaspora has revealed several facets of its image on various levels. On the one hand, we have the majority of its members who are active, supportive and bearers of solutions to the problems of our society. This positive diaspora contributes to the development of its country through its skills, resources, networks and influence. Its intellectual or economic investments, its civic engagement and its sense of community solidarity are all important factors for human capacity building, economic growth and democratic dynamics.
On the other hand, we have a minority of this diaspora that is carried away by currents of radicalism, hostility to their own country and mistrust of the nation. It is distinguished by its agitation in social networks, unspeakable acts of incivility such as fraud, delinquency, disorder, verbal or physical violence, hate speech or radical activism, in short everything that can be hostile to the institutions of the State of Cameroon at the international level.
A few months before the presidential election of October 2025, it is absolutely important that the Cameroonian diaspora should focus its attention on the essentials. There is no doubt that, in a country like ours, the diaspora must have a strategic and multidimensional mission. In addition to remittances, it is essential to take on concrete economic, social, cultural, political, and diplomatic responsibilities for the country’s development. An increasing number of countries are now acknowledging their diaspora as a significant contributor to national development. Cameroon must not put itself on the sidelines of this dynamic and allow itself to be distracted by small groups of agitated people who are mentally and psychically unstable.
