WHAT IS PROFESSOR ABA’A OYONO’S OBJECTIVE?

May 31, 2025. Montrouge – Paris. The Cameroonian diaspora in Europe is gathered around important personalities such as Samuel ETO’O, Denise EPOTE, Rebecca ENONCHONG, Blick BASSY, Thomas NGUIDJOL …

The General Manager of the Cameroon Real Estate Company (SIC) made the special trip accompanied by half a dozen of his executives. The Autonomous Port of Kribi has sent its marketing teams. The CCA Bank, the Atlantic Bank, to name but a few of these credit institutions, did no less by sending “the Heads” to this MEETING. The Consul General of Cameroon in Paris, John Billy EKO was part of the meeting.

 Republican values

From 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., the very prestigious BEFFROI Convention Center vibrated to the rhythm of Cameroonian talent in all its splendor and diversity: entrepreneurship, investment, tech, media, communication, culture, sports, fashion…

The 3rd edition of MBOA PARIS, a business and socio-cultural exhibition, brought together professionals, entrepreneurs and investors to discuss economic and cultural opportunities in Cameroon.

Cameroonians demonstrated their attachment to republican values while exhibiting their knowledge and know-how.

A 34-minute metro ride from the BEFFRO Montrouge, on the same Saturday, May 31, will take you to the Place de la République, where a distinctively different event was also taking place.

Support for a former master who has become a colleague

Maurice KAMTO was seated in the front row of this group of Cameroonians, with Jean Calvin ABA’A OYONO to his right, dressed in a distinctly immaculate white outfit.

In his remarks on the occasion, the academic states bluntly: “The MRC is the best structured and most popular opposition party (…) As a member of the civil society, I refused to let my stomach dictate my thinking (…) I’m used to the truth. This is the reason why you will rarely see academics near Prof. Maurice Kamto, who was once my teacher, eventually became my colleague due to various circumstances, particularly within the elite circle.  Honesty would have me support him.”

Douala Group

The individual who identified himself as a member of the scientific civil society promptly incited the discontent of the members of the “Douala Group,” an organization he helped establish.

“As of now, work is ongoing, and no candidate has been approved. Consequently, the Douala Group dissociates itself from the position taken by Professor ABA’A OYONO in favor of Maurice KAMTO’s candidacy at the May 31 meeting in Paris”  Anicet EKANE, one of the leaders of the platform, indicated.

The position of Anicet EKANE is not appreciated by Sam MBAKA, another leader of this platform who said he was “working for the rapprochement of the political parties of the opposition with a view to a single candidacy”.

This will force Anicet EKANE, in yet another press release, considering the inevitable disagreement occasion by Professor ABA’A OYONO’s position to dissolve this entity.

Fecafoot

The constitutional law professor, who was previously known for his critical stance against the regime, played a significant role in the dispute between the Minister of Sports and the President of Fecafoot regarding the appointment of the national football team’s coach.  “There is no hierarchical relationship of subordinate to superior between the Federation and the State,” he had said. He was always fueling the controversy in one “camp” against the other.

The rest is history… After that outing, the professor shared a photo of himself smiling with the Fecafoot president.  Before this important meeting, he attempted to persuade Samuel Eto’o’s closest associates to encourage him “to initiate legal action against the authoritarian actions of the State.”

Copyright and Display Advertising

Indeed, if he is recognized for a certain expertise in his field, the man who drumbeats his own achievement of having  been director in the central administration at 30, appears more like a divisive character whose legalism in the different sectors where he has worked has often been the subject of inflated polemics.

During his tenure as head of the Permanent Commission for Mediation and Control (CPMC) of Collective Management Organizations for Copyright and Related Rights, under Minister Ama Tutu MUNA, there were multiple disputes and disagreements, which typically did not lead to significant resolutions.

The same is true of his involvement in the field of advertising displays, where the expert in administrative litigation did not always leave a good impression, especially with some brewing companies and even with professionals in the advertising sector in Cameroon. Is ABA’A OYONO finally a vagrant?  an opportunist? a cheat?
